How to upload files
To complete a submission upload with the ACE web application secure e-filing feature:
- Log into your ACE web application account
- Navigate to Secure e-filing
- Enter the proceeding ID under which you are making the submission. If the submission is administrative in nature, you can leave this field blank
- The 15 digit business number and import-export program account (BN15) associated with your account will display automatically. Confirm that it is correct before proceeding, as it will be identified as the company making the submission
- If you submit files on behalf of a client, as the representative for that client, you must indicate the 15 digit business number and import-export program account (BN15) for that client by adding them to the List of clients
- Select Next to move to 02. Document description
- Specify the Type of submission by selecting from the list of options. If selecting “Other” use the radio buttons to indicate the nature of your submission or use the Subject field to add details
- Select Next to move to 03. Upload documents
- Add your files with the Add attachment option. Please note the size limits and acceptable file types
- Once your files have uploaded, select Next
- Review the certification, select the checkbox to agree with the statement, and select Submit
- An automated Submission Details page will be displayed within the browser. You can retain a copy of this for your records. This is not the official confirmation which you will receive to the email registered to your account
When you have finished uploading your submission, click the Sign out button to securely end your user session.
Size limits and acceptable file types
- Users can upload a maximum of 500 files per submission
- The size limit for each file is 1 GB
- Total submission size limit is 4 GB
- The daily upload limit per user is 50 GB
- The daily limit is for all submissions on all proceedings and resets after 24 hours
The acceptable file types are: .pdf, .mp3, .wav, .bmp, .gif, .png, .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .csv, .msg, .doc, .docx, .docm, .ppt, .pptx, .pptm, .vsd, .txt, .xml, .jpeg, .jpg, .zip
You can also upload media files in a compressed .zip format, if needed.
Important Larger files will take longer to fully upload. You can monitor the progress of uploads in real-time through the progress bar under each file. Users must wait until a file reaches 100% to continue.
Multiple small files
To make it easier to upload smaller files individually, there is an option to group files into a single compressed zip folder. The zip file must be under the 1 GB threshold. If multiple zip files are required, we suggest you name them in sequence (for example, Document1.zip, Document2.zip, Document3.zip).
Electronic file naming convention
All files uploaded with secure e-filing must include the words public, non-confidential, confidential or protected in the electronic title. Documents which do not contain one of these words cannot be uploaded.
Files cannot include a full stop (“.”) anywhere within the electronic filename. If your electronic filename includes a full stop, the file will not be uploaded as the system will recognize this as an ineligible file extension.
Example of proper electronic naming: COR1 2024 RI – Response to RFI - public – ABC Company.pdf
Improper electronic naming: COR1 2024 RI – Response to RFI v.2025 - public – ABC Company.pdf
Session time restrictions
Each session has a total limit of 60 minutes. This is for security and performance reasons. Once the 60 minute limit is reached, you will be prompted to extend your session. If you do not extend your session, you will be logged out and will need to sign in again to continue. Any progress may be lost. If you anticipate an extended period of inactivity, we recommend logging out manually to secure your account.
What might cause an error message that there is a problem with the ACE web application
If the application is inactive for more than 60 minutes, the application will prompt you for 30 seconds before it will time out. If you do not extend your session, for security purposes, you will have to sign out and sign back in.
Why a file might not upload
Check that the file extension is an acceptable format. Refer to Size limits and acceptable file types.
Check that the file has the required file naming convention. Refer to Electronic file naming convention.
