Steps to submit your refund claim
- Complete and sign (secure digital signatures are accepted) a physical copy of the CBSA informal adjustment request form (B2G)
- Attach a copy of your customs accounting document
- Attach all required documents to support your claim
- Mail the B2G form and the additional documents to the appropriate Casual Refund Centre based on your postal code (details located at the bottom of the B2G form or under Contact us)
Exception: If you cannot mail your claim due to a disability
At this time, all claims must be submitted by mail and cannot be accepted electronically.
If you are unable to do so due to a disability, contact the appropriate Casual Refund Centre for instructions.

How much time you have to apply
Time limits depend on how the goods come into Canada.
Mail or hand-carried goods
Requests for defective or inferior quality perishable goods must be made within 3 days of importation.
Requests for a change in tariff classification, value or origin by mail or hand carried must be made within 1 year of the date of original importation.
All other requests must be made within 4 years from the date of original importation, unless otherwise specified in legislation or regulation (for example, an Order in Council defines a specified period to claim a remission order).

“Original importation” refers to the date on which the goods entered Canada.
How long it will take to process your claim
The CBSA's service standard for processing casual refund requests is 30-business days from receipt of all required information.
If your refund is approved, it may take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive via mail in the form of a Government of Canada cheque.
