Apply for a security screening: Step 4. How to apply
For all security screening requests, complete and submit the Personnel screening, consent and authorization form upon receiving an invitation from a CBSA hiring official.
Make sure to review Get ready to apply. The online application form does not allow you to save information as you go.
Note: if you want to keep a record of your request, print the form before you submit. You may also email personnel.screeningenquiries-cbsa@cbsa-asfc.gc.ca after you submit to request a copy of the form.
How long it will take to process your application
For an online application to be successfully submitted to the Personnel Security Screening Unit, it must first be approved by the hiring official identified by the individual.
Once an online application is received by the Personnel Security Screening Unit, a security screening file will be created and assigned to an analyst for processing, at which point the below service standards will commence. Applications may be processed in:
- 20 business days for:
- site access status with additional inquiries
- reliability status
- 60 business days for:
- site access clearance with additional inquiries
- secret clearance
- 75 business days for enhanced reliability status
- 100 business days for:
- enhanced secret clearance
- top secret clearance
- enhanced reliability status plus top secret clearance
- 175 business days for enhanced top secret clearance
Estimated processing times only apply to properly completed applications. When further investigation is required, the estimated processing times no longer apply.
