Customs Notice 25-29: Form A48 – R.M.D. correction, removal of customs port of release and sub-location code
Ottawa,
1. Starting on , the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will no longer accept requests for corrections on form A48 for the following two data elements: customs port of release and sub-location code.
2. An unaltered EDI Release Notification System (RNS) released message received directly from CBSA can be used by the importer/broker to show proof of release to a warehouse operator, in the event the goods were released by the CBSA, but the warehouse where the goods are physically located did not receive a copy of the RNS released message.
3. A CBSA RNS released message which contains an incorrect customs port of release and/or incorrect sub-location code is considered proof of release and is sufficient for a warehouse operator to allow the goods to exit the warehouse.
4. If the warehouse operator has concerns that the RNS released message may be fraudulent, verification can be completed electronically using the RNS Status Query message with the Cargo Control Number (CCN) or transaction number. This will provide the status of the shipment. They can also contact the appropriate CBSA office. However, warehouse operators are encouraged to perform the verification electronically.
