1. Overview of the federal government's approach to sustainable development
The 2013–16 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) presents the Government of Canada's sustainable development activities, as required by the Federal Sustainable Development Act. In keeping with the objectives of the Act to make environmental decision making more transparent and accountable to Parliament, the Canada Border Services Agency supports the implementation of the FSDS through the activities described in this supplementary information table.
2. Our Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy
This Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy describes Canada Border Services Agency's actions in support of Theme III: protecting nature and Canadians, and Theme IV: shrinking the environmental footprint, beginning with government. The report for 2016–17 presents a high-level overview of results and is the final report under the 2013–16 FSDS. Last year's report is available on the departmental website.

Goal 4 – Conserving and Restoring Ecosystems, Wildlife and Habitat, and Protecting Canadians
Target 4.6 – Invasive Alien Species
By 2020, pathways of invasive alien species introductions are identified, and risk-based intervention or management plans are in place for priority pathways and species.
Implementation strategy 4.6.1
FSDS target: Prevent the introduction and rapid dispersal of invasive species and disease into Canada via land, air and marine ports of entry, thus reducing potential harmful impacts on ecosystems, economies and society.

Implementation strategies: performance summary 6.1
Fleet reduction from 1,066 to 896 vehicles, representing -15.6%.
Nonetheless, to understand the Agency's GHG emissions pattern, it is important to know, as it was already declared in DPR 2015-2016, that "Floor area of CBSA's custodial facilities has increased by 40% since 2005," as of 2015-2016 fiscal year. In consequence, the increase in absolute terms also represents an important decrease for emissions per m².
The important decrease between FY 2015-16 and 2016-17 is the consequence of the decrease in energy demand per square meter in the facilities that went from 1774 MJ/m² to 1705 MJ/m², representing -10.7% in electricity demand and -12.6% in natural gas consumption, only for this FY.
This decrease in facilities is coupled with another decrease of 1.6% in GHG emissions from the fleet between 2015-16 and 2016-17, consequence of a 1.7% decrease in fuel demand.
