Canada Border Services Agency Liaison Officer Matt St. Louis,
Australian Border Intelligence Fusion Centre

The CBSA has had a Liaison Officer (LO) embedded with Australia’s Department of Home Affairs for nearly 10 years. In December 2016, we took this co-operation a step further and appointed an LO to serve directly within the Australian Border Intelligence Fusion Centre (BIFC). In this role, the CBSA National Targeting Centre LO has the capacity to work with BIFC and other Border Five (B5) Customs partners, to support the CBSA’s targeting and intelligence priorities. The LO strengthens information sharing and targeting frameworks amongst the B5 intelligence community and supports operational interdictions, while expanding CBSA enforcement capabilities within the Asian-Pacific theatre. As a result of this new position, new opportunities and requirements for changes to existing information sharing agreements have been identified.
