Automated Border Clearance

Tips on using Automated Border Clearance –
Basic Process

Note: not all situations will be covered by the steps below.

Touch the initial screen on the kiosk to begin the Automated Border Clearance process.

** It is important to note that in all cases, eligible travellers who choose to use these kiosks must continue to have their travel documents verified by a border services officer.

Welcome Screen

You can choose your language of choice by touching one of the language buttons on the first screen.

Number of Travellers

You will be asked to enter the number of people listed on your declaration card. Up to four travellers with the same residential address can be listed.

Passports or Permanent Resident Cards

An instructional video will be displayed showing you how to insert your travel documents. You will be requested to insert each Canadian passport or Canadian permanent resident card one at a time. This can be done in any order.

As each Canadian passport or Canadian permanent resident card is scanned, a screen will display each of the names as it is read by the kiosk.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Declaration Card

An instructional video will be displayed to demonstrate how and where to insert your declaration card (E311). Following the video, you will be requested to insert your completed CBSA declaration card (E311) into the appropriate kiosk slot.

If further clarification to your responses on the declaration card (E311) is required, the kiosk will inform you that a few more questions will be asked in order to complete the process. You will not see this screen if the information on your E311 is clear and complete.

Once all of the appropriate responses are captured by the kiosk, the kiosk will produce a kiosk receipt, which is a copy of your E311 declaration card that contains the results of the declaration. The following screen will be displayed to indicate that the kiosk receipt is being printed.

Successful Passage Message

Once the print job is complete, a video will be displayed to indicate where you are to collect the kiosk receipt that was produced by the kiosk. Pick up the receipt and your travel documents (Canadian passport or Canadian permanent resident card) and proceed to the next checkpoint, where a border services officer will verify your documents.
