Expiry Review No.: RR-2000-001

Oil and Gas Well Casing

On October 20, 2000, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (the "Tribunal") initiated an expiry review, pursuant to subsection 76.03(3) of the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), concerning certain oil and gas well casing originating in or exported from the Republic of Korea and the United States of America. As a result, the Commissioner of Customs and Revenue (the "Commissioner") commenced an investigation on October 21, 2000, to determine whether the expiry of the order in respect of oil and gas well casing is likely to result in the continuation or resumption of dumping of the goods.

The investigation has now been completed and today, pursuant to paragraph 76.03(7)(a) of SIMA, the Commissioner has determined that the expiry of the order made by the Tribunal is likely to result in the continuation or resumption of dumping of the goods originating in or exported from the Republic of Korea and the United States of America.

A Statement of Reasons which contains additional details concerning the determination made by the Commissioner will be issued within fifteen days. The Statement of Reasons will also be posted on the SIMA Web site.

The Tribunal will now conduct an inquiry to determine if the continued or resumed dumping is likely to result in injury or retardation to the Canadian industry and will issue its order by July 4, 2001.
