Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, May 17, 2012 – Today, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Sûreté du Québec, with the participation of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, carried out a vast border control operation in the Lac-Mégantic region and at the Woburn border crossing.
The purpose of the operation, dubbed Operation Reflect, was to comb through a freight train and vehicles transiting through the border in this region in Quebec, as well as to reinforce co-operation between the CBSA's partners. Approximately 20 officers from different police forces participated in the operation. Officers used such tools as a helicopter, an Ion scanner, a heat detector and detector dogs.
The CBSA works closely with domestic and international law enforcement partners to control the access of people and goods to and from Canada. This work helps ensure Canadians' security and prosperity.
