More than $400,000 in marijuana seized at Windsor border

Windsor, Ontario, April 22, 2005 - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reported today that officers at the Ambassador Bridge seized 21.98 kilograms of suspected marijuana, with an estimated street value of $439,600.

On Friday, April 15, 2005, at approximately 6:45 p.m., CBSA officers uncovered the contraband during the examination of a tractor-trailer containing a legitimate shipment of goods. Upon examining a duffle bag, found under the bunk in the sleeper compartment of the tractor, officers discovered two bales containing the suspected drugs.

The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old Etobicoke, Ontario, man, has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with importation of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The CBSA works diligently to keep illegal drugs and other contraband from entering Canada. Seizures such as this are an important contribution to keeping our communities safe.

Anyone with information about suspicious cross-border activity is encouraged to call the CBSA Border Watch toll-free line, 1-888-502-9060. All calls are completely confidential.
