Over 380 kilos of narcotics seized at Pearson Airport

Mississauga, Ontario, May 26, 2005 - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that officers at Pearson International Airport seized over 380 kilograms of narcotics in two separate incidents.

On May 20, 2005, during a secondary examination of a shipment declared as printed matter, CBSA officers at Pearson International Airport Commercial Operations seized over 380 kilograms of hashish worth $7,000,000. The shipment was destined to a company in the Greater Toronto Area.

The CBSA and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are continuing their investigation.

In a separate incident on the same day, CBSA officers at Passenger Operations arrested a 31 year-old male who had ingested over 750 grams of cocaine. The drugs are worth an estimated $97,500.

The individual, who was arriving on a flight from Jamaica, was charged with importing a controlled substance and turned over to the RCMP.
