North Portal, Sask., April 11, 2005 - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reported today that officers at North Portal, Saskatchewan have intercepted child pornography and numerous images of prohibited pornographic material.
On March 29, 2005, a US resident presented himself at the North Portal border crossing attempting to enter Canada. CBSA officers became suspicious of the traveller's responses to routine questions, and decided that a closer examination of the traveller and his vehicle was warranted. During the search, officers reviewed material contained on a laptop computer and numerous CDs. When officers discovered sexual images involving what appeared to be children, the individual was immediately arrested. The 44-year-old man is facing charges under the Customs Act.
"Our officers contribute to keeping child pornography out of Canada and off our streets," said Manager of Investigations, George Durston. " We take this important role in combating the exploitation of children very seriously," he concluded.
