CBSA officers seize three shipments of U.S.-destined ecstasy

Vancouver, B.C. April 7, 2005 - Officers of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) at the Vancouver International Airport seized a total of 6,083 ecstasy pills in three separate shipments during March.

"Whether harmful and illegal drugs are coming in or going out of Canada, CBSA officers are vigilant in ensuring the integrity of our Canadian border," said Chris Argue, Chief of Airside and Special Enforcement Operations for the CBSA.

During March, CBSA officers intercepted three separate courier shipments destined for various locations in the USA. In all three cases, officers became suspicious of the parcels' contents after reviewing the export documentation. Officers selected the shipments for examination and discovered ecstasy tablets hidden inside. The officers made two of these three seizures with the assistance of the CBSA Detector Dog Services. CBSA officers turned over the three shipments of ecstasy, with a combined total of 6,083 tablets, to the RCMP.

Last year, CBSA officers at the Vancouver International Airport made 19 ecstasy seizures, seizing a total of 10,032 ecstasy tablets.
