CBSA officers seize marijuana at the Port of Halifax

Halifax, Nova Scotia, September 9, 2005 - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reported today that its officers at the Port of Halifax have seized 14.4 kilograms of marijuana worth an estimated street value of $288,000.

CBSA officers found the drugs on August 29, 2005, while searching a marine container destined for Halifax from Jamaica. The container had been targeted and selected by officers for a closer examination.

Using X-ray technology, the officers found 139 packages of drugs in boxes of pre packaged biscuits. Some of the packages of biscuits had been hollowed out and the drugs were concealed inside, wrapped in plastic and tape.

The narcotics were turned over to the RCMP while the investigation continued. No charges have been laid.
