Update concerning improvements to the Canada Border Services Agency Port of Entry in Cornwall

Cornwall, Ontario, July 16, 2010 – The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is continuing work next week on additional improvements to the interim Port of Entry in the City of Cornwall that began on July 5.

Travellers are advised that beginning on July 19 at midnight, the CBSA will begin installing canopy support columns for each of our three primary inspection lanes. This work is expected to take two evenings to complete. All work will take place between midnight and 6:00 a.m., and as such the CBSA does not anticipate any inconvenience to travellers. However, two inspection lanes will be closed while this work takes place.

On July 21, the final installation of all three primary lane canopies will take place between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. The work will require the closure of all three primary lanes intermittently for approximately 30 minutes each time.

This work may also take place the evening of July 22, depending on weather conditions.

Travellers may experience some delays during this period and are reminded to take this into account and plan their border crossing accordingly.

Additional work to install security gates for each primary inspection lane and carry out construction in the secondary examination area will begin July 26 but should not have any impact on traffic or border wait times.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation.
