If you move to Canada from another country, you don’t have to pay duty or taxes on the personal possessions you bring with you.
However, when these goods arrive in Canada by mail, the CBSA may mistakenly assess duty and taxes on them.
If this happens, you have two options:
Canada Post's CAN$9.95 handling fee will be refunded if it is determined that the goods should have been duty free and tax exempt at the time of importation.
However, this handling fee will not be refunded on Priority Courier items.
As well, the CBSA will not refund any broker’s fees or shipping and handling costs.
