The Holiday Season is here again! With the annual surge in postal volumes, this marks the busiest time of year for postal services.
The Canada Border Services Agency and Canada Post are working together to deal with the unusually high volume of parcels. We are doing everything we can to reduce processing delays, including increasing our resources and having employees work more overtime than is usual at this time of the year.
When items are imported by mail, Canada Post charges the recipient either a $5 handling fee for collecting and remitting any duty and taxes that are owed to the government, or an $8 handling fee if the item was sent by priority post. If a mail item is duty free and tax exempt, neither fee is charged.
