Description

This battery contact is a replacement part for various models of digital cameras. It consists of three pins (contacts) approximately 5 millimetres (0.2 of an inch) in length inserted into a moulded plastic piece to form a connector. Its purpose is to allow electrical voltage to flow directly to the camera’s printed circuit board.

Analysis and Justification

Electrical apparatus for making connections to or in electrical circuits, for a voltage not exceeding 1000 volts, are specifically provided for in heading 85.36 of the Harmonized System. Note 2(a) to Section XVI states that “parts which are goods included in any of the headings of Chapter 84 or 85 (other than headings 84.09, 84.31, 84.48, 84.66, 84.73, 84.87, 85.03, 85.22, 85.29, 85.38 and 85.48) are in all cases to be classified in their respective headings”. Accordingly, this replacement battery contact part cannot be classified as a part of a digital camera in heading 85.29; rather it must be classified as an electric connector in heading 85.36.
